Mason's 5th on 5th!!

I meant to get this post up much sooner, but better late then never!!
It was Mason's special birthday this year as he turned 5 years old on the 5th of March. I always want to make sure my kids feel special on their birthdays, but I especially wanted Mason to have a great birthday this year. For one, it was his 5th birthday and the other reason was I didn't want him feeling like his birthday got lost in the excitement and commotion of a new sibling being born.
As my due date was on March 3rd, I had to try to plan a good time to have a party. Since babies are usually unpreictable I actually had two birthday party dates on the invitation. There was a disclaimer on the back that said if I go into labour early the party would be rescheduled for a different day and time. :)
We had his party with all his school friends about 2 weeks early. We decided on a BUG themed birthday party and he had a blast with it.  It was really easy finding party inspiration off the internet, so I can't claim that any of these ideas were actually mine!
I did design and print up the invites on my own, and the cake was a lot of fun and really easy to make. I did chocolate pudding mix/whip cream icing instead of regular icing to try to cut back a little on the killer sweetness, since the top of the cake was covered in candies.

We had a few activities, the kids could make antenna out of pipe cleaner when they came in. Then we had a game of "What time is is Mr. ________(insert name of favorite bug!) We also had a craft of making caterpillars out of egg cartons. And whats a party without balloons? Those also kept the kids happy for a bit.
I didn't want to provide a full lunch for the kids so we just had a few munchies on the sides that they  could eat. We had butterfly sandwiches, and ants on a log. And the favorite was the "bug juice" which was just green Koolaid and sprite. The kids thought that was really fun.
They also each went home with a little goodie bag with some bug candy and little bug toys. I think we kept it pretty simple but lots of fun for everyone. Mason had a great time and I call that a success.
For his actual birthday we gave him our presents from us and grandparents, and sang happy birthday, then just bought a few little treats from the bakery for after supper. I can't believe he is 5 years old already and I am sure lucky to have him in my life.
Last year on his birthday I asked him a bunch of questions. I want to do it every year and see how his answers change. You can see last years here. These are his responses for this year!
